Oribasius of Pergamon and the Medical Collections

Oribasius of Pergamon, fourth and early fifth centuries CE, studied in Alexandria and is named as ἱατρός to the emperor Julian. After Julian’s death he was exiled and later recalled.

He compiled earlier Greek. He is not the first voice of the books he quotes.

What this site holds: the Medical Collections (Ἰατρικαὶ συναγωγαί), originally seventy books, of which only part survives; the Summary to Eustathius the Son; the Selections of Medicines; the books to Eunapius; and the Testimonies, a fragment.

The Collections quote earlier Greek, Hippocratic and Hellenistic passages among them, beside later writers including Galen. The earlier excerpts remain those earlier books.
