3 Choer. 817, 23: αἱ μετοχαὶ ἢ ἁπλαῖ εἰσιν ἢ παρασύνθετοι, οὐδέποτε δὲ σύνθετοι· ἢ γὰρ ἀπὸ ἁπλῶν ῥημάτων παράγονται καί εἰσιν ἁπλαῖ οἷον τύπτω τύπτων ἢ ἀπὸ συνθέτων ῥημάτων παράγονται καί εἰσι παρασύνθετοι οἷον καταγράφω καταγράφων, ἀναγινώσκω ἀναγινώσκων χωρὶς τῆς ἀέκων μετοχῆς. αὕτη γὰρ σύνθετός ἐστιν. ἀπὸ γὰρ τῆς ἑκών γέγονεν ἐν συνθέσει ἀέκων. οὐδὲ γὰρ ἔχει ῥῆμα προϋπάρχον ἐν συνθέσει, ἵνα παρασύνθετον αὐτὴν εἴπωμεν, ἀλλ’ ἐν μετοχῇ ἐγένετο ἡ σύνθεσις.
