The Culinary and Medical Dialogues, attributed to Philemon the Younger, is a fragmentary comedic work in verse. Its alternative title, Apospasmata, meaning "Extracts," indicates that it survives not as a complete play but as a collection of excerpts, likely drawn from a larger, now-lost work or series. The twelve preserved passages belong to the genre of comedy and are attributed to a Hellenistic-era author distinct from the more famous New Comedy playwright Philemon. While the full plot is unrecoverable, the title and surviving content suggest a satirical focus on professional expertise, particularly targeting the intertwined worlds of cooking and medicine. The dialogue likely explored the interplay between diet, health, and pleasure, offering social commentary on luxury and daily life.
