The most historically significant section is the doxography, which systematically records the theories of earlier physicians and philosophers, including Hippocrates, Plato, and Aristotle, on the origins of illness. This central survey is likely an epitome of a lost medical history written by Aristotle's pupil Menon. Compiled as a practical reference for students or practitioners, the text exemplifies the Roman Imperial period's tendency to systematize earlier Greek knowledge. Despite its incomplete state, with both the beginning and end lost and the text riddled with lacunae, the Anonymous Londinensis remains a vital source for reconstructing pre-Hippocratic medical debates and understanding the profound philosophical underpinnings of early Greek medical theory.
