These excerpts are not derived from a single, continuous ancient text but are instead gathered from citations found in later scholarly works, most notably Athenaeus's Deipnosophistae, where they were preserved for their illustrative value regarding social customs, cuisine, and colloquial speech. The fragments collectively offer a vivid, if piecemeal, portrait of Athenian daily life, reflecting the characteristic concerns of Middle Comedy.
