300 b τῷ γὰρ ὄντι ἅπασα τέχνη τὰ μὲν ὑφ’ ἑαυτῇ τεταγμένα χειρουργεῖν ἱκανὴ καὶ πᾶσι σκευάζειν τοῖς δεομένοις, ἑαυτὴν δὲ οὐχ οἵα τε ἐξετάζειν ἄχρι τοῦ ὠφέλιμος ἢ ἐπιβλαβής. ἀλλὰ καὶ τοῦτο τῶν τεχνῶν πονηρὸν καὶ ἐνδεές, ὅτι ὁμοίως μὲν ἀγαθοῖς, ὁμοίως δὲ φαύλοις ὑπηρετοῦσι τὰ σφέτερα ἔργα· καὶ οὔτε ὁ μαχαιροποιὸς δοκιμάζειν ἔχει εἰ ἀνδροφόνῳ τὴν μάχαιραν ἀποδώσεται οὔτε ὁ ναυπηγὸς εἰ ἅρπαγι ναυπηγήσεται, ὥσπερ τῷ Πάριδι Ἁρμονίδης, οὔτε ὁ κυβερνήτης εἰ σώζει ἐν τῷ πλῷ ὃν καὶ βαπτίσαι ἄμεινον ἦν. εἰ δὲ καὶ φρόνησις καὶ σοφία τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν ἀπευθύνοι καὶ διατάττοι, καὶ τοῦτο αὐτῶν τὸ ἔλλειμμα ἐξιάσεται καὶ οὐ συγχωρήσει ὥσπερ τυφλοῖς προτείνειν τὰ δημιουργήματα τοῖς ἀπαντῶσι.
