The Etymologicum Symeonis is a twelfth-century Byzantine etymological lexicon transmitted under the name of a compiler Symeon, printed by Lasserre and Livadaras in the same Rome series as the Genuinum (Edizioni dell’Ateneo, 1976), together with the Magna Grammatica.
Symeon, working shortly before 1150, mixed an abridgement of the Genuinum with glosses from other lexica, not all of them etymological. The published stretch in volume 1 is the alpha range (α–ἁμωσγέπως). The work is dated to the twelfth century CE.
The author is the lexicon itself. The personal name in the title is the compiler-heading of that dictionary, not a biography to be filled in.
