Galen of Pergamon II on Allegories in Homer and Hesiod

2 works

Galen of Pergamon II was a 2nd-century CE grammarian, distinct from the renowned physician of the same name. The Byzantine encyclopedia Suda identifies him as a grammarian from Pergamon, the son of Nicon, and a contemporary of the emperor Hadrian.

The Suda attributes two lost works to him: On the Dialect of the Atticists and Various Histories. He is distinguished from the physician Galen and belongs to the Atticist movement of the Second Sophistic. His treatise on the Atticists' dialect represents the specialized grammatical scholarship of the Roman Imperial period.
