Sclerias is a tragedian whose three fragments are printed in the first volume of Fragments of the Greek Tragedians; the dating is uncertain. Three pieces survive. One: in many mortals the look is well-born, but the nous in them is found ignoble. Two: unbearable is the man who, drunk or mad, is always safe toward himself and sick toward his neighbours. Four (starred): war does not plunder aretē as booty.
The lines are moralising tragic iambics, quoted as gnomes.
