Pseudo-Zonaras is the conventional name of a large Byzantine Greek lexicon once ascribed to the historian John Zonaras. Johann August Heinrich Tittmann edited it from three manuscripts as Iohannis Zonarae lexicon, two volumes (Leipzig, 1808). It is also called the Lexicon Tittmannianum after its editor.
The compilation belongs to the first half of the thirteenth century. Entries run alphabetically and mix glosses, etymologies, and excerpts from earlier lexica, including a branch of Cyril's glossary. The ascription to Zonaras rests on late manuscript notes; the historian of the twelfth century did not compile it.
The lexicon is the work transmitted here, not the chronicle of Zonaras. Tittmann's edition remains the complete printed Greek text.
