Πρόξενος ὁ Βοιωτός
Proxenus of Boeotia
1 work

Proxenus of Boeotia was a 5th-century BCE Greek historian. He is identified by his regional origin and is known only from later references to his work on the Macedonian king Alexander I.

His sole attested work is On Alexander, a history of King Alexander I of Macedon. The work is lost, surviving only in fragments and testimonia cited by later authors.

Proxenus is a minor historian who represents the early Ionian tradition of local history. His significance lies in being a named source for the early Macedonian monarchy, and his work appears to have been utilized by later historians compiling Macedonian history.
