Lepidus, Historical Epitome Fragments

1 work

Lepidus wrote an Epitome of History. Stephanus of Byzantium quotes book 1 on Tegea: the Pythia’s two oracles to the Spartans about Arcadia — “you ask me for Arcadia; I will not give it,” then the famous lines on Tegea and the bones of Orestes. Book 8 names Scupi in Thrace (ethnic Scupeni). An unplaced fragment spells the ethnic of Buthrotum Boutrotios with tau.

Müller, FHG 4, p. 439. Canon: LEPIDUS Hist. (Incertum). This is not Marcus Aemilius Lepidus the triumvir.

The slot is that epitome: Spartan oracles, Tegea, and a handful of ethnics.
