Hippocrates of Chios and the Geometry of Lunes

Hippocrates of Chios, second half of the fifth century BCE, is the name this site attaches to a Greek geometer from Chios who taught at Athens for a fee. He is not Hippocrates of Cos.

What this site holds is Testimonies: his Στοιχεῖα are lost; later hosts report lunules (μηνίσκοι) and the reduction of doubling the cube to two mean proportionals. Euclid’s Στοιχεῖα are a later book. It is quotation, not the lost textbook.
