Ctesias of Cnidus was a Greek ἱατρός who served Artaxerxes II for seventeen years, including at Cunaxa in 401 BCE. After leaving the Persian court he wrote in Ionic Greek.
The large histories are lost as books. What this site holds are Testimonies, Fragments on Assyrian History from the lost Περσικά, and On the Colaxaeans. A work called Ἰνδικά is reported; it is not an autograph here. A geographical Periodos or Periplous is likewise lost.
He is filed under medicine because he was a court physician. The surviving Greek on this page is mainly historical quotation in later hosts.
