Ptolemaeus Hephaest. lib. VI: Ὑπερμένης ἐν τῷ Περὶ Χίου, Ὁμήρου φησὶ γενέσθαι θεράποντα Σκινδαψὸν ὀνόματι· καὶ τοῦτον ζημιωθῆναι ὑπὸ Χίων χιλίας δραχμὰς διὰ τὸ μὴ καῦσαι τελευτήσαντα τὸν δεσπότην. Ὁ δὲ τὸ ὄργανον εὑρὼν τὸ οὕτω καλούμενον σκινδαψὸν, Ἐρέτριος ἦν, Ποικίλης αὐλητρίδος υἱός.
